You Could Be on Broadway...but -

Funny story.  At least to me and Remy.  It's an old one, but I wanted to make sure I got it written down before I forgot all about it.  And it's one of those stories where I can remember weird details.  The kind of memory where you can totally relive the WHOLE thing in your head over and over.

So this past Christmas Remy and I were shopping for gifts at the mall.  We walked into Christopher & Banks because we saw something we thought his mom would like.  Anyhow we were in the back of the store and some song was playing (the exact being on of those details that I CANNOT remember for some reason) and I was doing my typical thing where I sing along and make up actions to the words. Well I was being overly dramatic this time around and I remember my actions being really big and awesome and I think I hit some big finishing move when Remy says -in all seriousness, "You could be on Broadway.  Except you can't sing."

It took both of us a second to realize what he just said.  And then we just busted up laughing!  The first part was meant to be a sort of compliment.  And the second more offensive part he said so matter of factly and didn't realize what he said, it was just funny!  Now he's LUCKY I thought it was so funny because I'm one of those people is well aware at my singing INability, so I wasn't offended.  And he realizes he was lucky.  Because if I was one of those people who THOUGHT I was a good singer, I would have totally been offended and it would have been to the dog house for him.

This might be one of those "you just had to be there" stories, but oh man.  We had a good laugh.  And we still do.  In fact we just brought it up the other day which is why I had it on my mind and just had to share!

Where's Malcom Wednesday...

...and every day for that matter!  But who can blame him?  I wish I could just bask in the sun all day.  The sad thing is the sun never gets farther than this into any room of our house.  It's kind of depressing.  But I'm glad he gets to take advantage!

This is also his favorite spot because there is a heater vent right there...double whammy!

Long Weekend to Myself

So Remy and I didn't have to work yesterday (yay).  Don't you just love random holidays?  -Well, random holidays you get paid for not showing up and work anyway?

Fun fact:  The University of Michigan (and I'm sure many others) don't get President's Day off.  There's another one they don't get, but I can't remember.  So yay for the U and all our paid holidays as well as that extra one in July! {love}

BUT Remy had a guy's weekend in Denver (not yay).  So I had 4 days to myself.  Which was okay...I actually got a TON done on Friday...cleaned the bathroom, did dishes, cleaned and vacuumed the living room, changed the sheets and that was all between 5:30 and 6:45!  I know, I'm amazing!  Then my friend Jesica came on over to keep me company and accompanied me to Zumba on Saturday morning! :)  YAY!  I kept busy the rest of the day too, went to the gym, got ready, eyebrows waxed, hair cut (not so good), a little shopping, cleaned the bedroom, tried to organize the 2nd bedroom but failed miserably, framed and hung a new peice of art in our bedroom (which Remy has yet to notice.  It's above our bed people, not that hard to see),prepared my Primary lesson...I rock!

Sunday I sat on the couch literally ALL DAY!  Because of this:

Look at that!  Could you move if that thing was sleeping on your lap?  I think not!  (even those of you who are thinking the opposite...I dare you to try it when it happens to you!  Trust me, I was in your same shoes!)  Unfortunately those of you who have cats know that they can sleep...and sleep...and sleep....for HOURS!  So that pretty much made up for any productivity I had accomplished the previous days (though I did get my 2 custom subway art orders made-turned out adorable!).  But who cares, I deserve it.  Plus it's Sunday...day of REST...hello.

Unfortunately on Monday I was equally as unproductive.  Oh I had plans.  Big plans.  But what can I say?  I did go to the gym for a while.  I spent 65 minutes on the elliptical which I had never done for that long before, plus some weights.  Having a good book really helps.  I'm just jumping on the Hunger Games bandwagon and loving it so far.

Thank you for joining me on my President's Day weekend journey...it's been fun.  Real fun.

See you next time!

The Day of Love

Awe.

It's Valentine's Day.  Doing anything fun?

I just wanted to join the "my husband is the best" club.  But really, he is.  Really, Remy...you are!

Thanks for putting me first.
For letting me be me.
For pushing me to be better.
For watching out for me.
Thanks for being so funny.
I laugh every single day!
Thanks for calling me at work.
For making dinner EVERY day.
For taking out the trash and doing the dishes.
For kissing me on the cheek before you leave for work.
Thanks for the hugs.
Thanks for holding me when I need a good cry.
And laughing with me when I need a good laugh.
Thanks for not kicking me out of the bed for poking at you while you try to sleep.
And for not shoving me over when I invade your side...

You're seriously the sweetest and I love you!

Kids Say the Darndest Things

So I just had to quickly share something before I forgot.  Today at work I had to run to the Park Building to drop some stuff off.  For those of you who are unfamiliar with the Park Building, it's a big old (completed in 1914) building at the University of Utah where the President and other Administration have their offices.  Anyhow I was walking out of the front doors and a school group was coming up the stairs.  The kids were probably, I don't know 8? 9?  Something like that.

Click on the pic for the source

See that little dude on the left of the main doors?  That's John Park, for whom the building is named after.  Well as a two little girls approached the doors and Mr. Park, one turns to the other and says, "Is that the Principal?"

SO CUTE!  I thought that was a logical assumption on her part.  Oh man it made me laugh!

OMG I WANT That!

I really love it when I randomly click on links from my favorite blogs and end up running into something magnificent!  For example yesterday I found http://www.kikicreates.blogspot.com/.  And she had this beaut (click on the picture for a link to her tutorial)...

The picture on the left is from Urban Outfitter, the one on the right...yeah she MADE that!  What do you think?  Amazing right?  I think I just might give that a try.  Remy is going to be out of town next weekend...hmmm.... :)  It looks like it would take a good amount of time to get all those ruffles made, but fairly simple as far as the actual sewing is concerned.  My biggest concern is placing the ruffles themselves, like I'd totally screw it up!  But I think it's worth a try, don't you?  And I don't need a bed skirt so that's even better!

GNO and Another Wall Idea

While I worked at Human Resources, I made some really great friends.  I know it sounds weird or lame or whatever, but I hadn't really made any NEW close friends in a long time.  They are seriously awesome.  Slowly over time all of us left HR (except for one!), and as that started happening we decided to start having monthly GNO....Girl's Night Out!  And actually now that I think of it, it will be TWO YEARS next month that we went on our first GNO where I tried sushi for the first time.  Anyhow we have not missed a single  month in almost 2 years.  WOW!  We rock.  So last night we went out for Amanda's birthday.  We tried a new place called

DELICIOUS!  A little pricey (we were fortunate to have a gift certificate), but not outrageous I would say.  (It was like $24 for a 14 oz. ribeye -14 oz people! with a soup or salad, veggies and a side -plus you get free rolls that are SO yummy!) They had the BEST sweet potato fries I've ever had. (and we got a really big serving for only $7 -I mean, it was enough for 5 of us to share) Honestly I haven't cared much for any sweet potato fries I've had in the past.  But these were cooked so well, they were just delicious.  And they give you a garlic, basil aioli and fry sauce for dipping.  The aioli was WAY good!  They brought us out two different kinds of fresh baked rolls -an asiago cheese and I think a multi-grain kind.  SO GOOD.  I peeked out the window and they have a really great outdoor space.  I would like to come back in the warm weather and eat out there.  Elo brought us a delicious chocolate layered cheesecake of some sort from the Cheesecake Factory (of which I could NOT resist and ate a giant piece).

So I would definitely recommend that place if you want to go out for a fancier meal.  It was definitely a fancy place, but not stuffy fancy, or over-the-top fancy, just nice-fancy.  It was a great night....thanks gals!

Onto my wall situation.  If you haven't yet, please check out http://www.vintagerevivals.blogspot.com/, she has some really fun ideas and projects.  Which is where I found ANOTHER great idea for doing something cool to my wall.  Check this action out:

Cute right?  I love the colors, the chandelier...everything.  Click on the pic for a link to the post.  She has a great tutorial.  I really like this idea.  She put little nails in that last tree so her daughter could decorate it for different seasons, etc.  This was obviously for Christmas.  I like how it's simple, and easy and doesn't require perfect lines.  Which is awesome for someone like me.  And another reason I'm now hesitating on doing something geometric, because if I start going crooked, it'll look like crap.  My only concern with this, is that I think they are a little wintry.  You know?  But it's definitely giving me some inspiration.  She just found a clip art tree and made it into a transparency, projected it on the wall, traced it with a pencil and filled it in.  Easy!

What do you think?!

Date Night!

So this weekend Remy and I had an official date night.  Of course we go out all the time together, but sometimes it's just more fun when you call it something official.

We stopped at Remy's favorite store of all time...
to take in couple of pairs of pants he needed hemmed.  As he was trying those on I found a couple shirts I wanted him to try on.  See, Remy has lost about 45 pounds since we got married in December '09.  Most of it in just the last few months.  He's never been this skinny since I've known him!  And he looks awesome!  Needless to say after 45 pounds his clothes don't fit quite right anymore.  Which is sad because he had some great stuff.  Anyhow he tried on a couple of things and fell in love with one shirt in particular.  I knew it was expensive.  But geez!  He hasn't bought any new clothes since the weight loss.  And I think he deserves it.

So he walked away with this little number (a short sleeved version of this exact shirt):

He spotted a really cute coral military jacket on display (not for him...geez!) in the window as we were walking in so I found it and tried it on.  I assumed I'd look weird in it, because that tends to happen lately when I find something unique and cute.  They only had one left and it was my size...usually when that happens it means it's destiny!  So yeah, I loved it and as I was putting it on to show Remy he said "uh-oh!"  Which means..."this is looking amazing and I'm going to have to end up buying it for you and it probably costs more than we should spend!"  So yeah we said Happy Valentine's Day to each other and he got me this:
Then off to dinner!  We took a little break from our healthy eating so we could really enjoy ourselves!  Gotta love me some....

Then what would a classic date night be without a movie?  We headed off to Jordan Commons and saw True Grit.  If you haven't seen it, I recommend it.  It's part action/drama/comedy...seriously.  You laugh, you cry, you have a great time!  No swears, no bad stuff, not even any kissing! :)  I mean, there's they occasional dead body...they're fighting with guns for crying out loud!  I'll be honest I'm not sure how I felt about the ending, but it was great overall.  Remy pointed out it's not really high-action per se.  But there's lots of gun shootin' and horse ridin' and just entertainin'!  Check it out!  (btw it's an Acadamy Award nominee for best picture)

Love you Remy, thanks for the great night!

I Want Awesome Walls Too!

So yesterday I was poking around etsy and I found this and thought it was AWESOME!  Today I was glancing through some of my favorite blogs and I ran into this.

Cool huh?  I think I want to do something like that in or bedroom maybe?  Even keep it more tone on tone so Remy doesn't freak out! :)  The thing I thougth was pretty cool was that she used Picnik to make a sample of what the wall would look like.

What do you think?  Should I go for it?
